Liceu de Artes e Oficios rocking chair with ottoman Brazil 1960s
A refined Brazilian modern rocking chair, produced in the 1960s by Liceu de Artes e Ofícios.
The design reflects a clear understanding of proportion and material, where each element contributes to a composed and balanced whole.
The sculptural frame is executed in richly grained Brazilian rosewood, shaped into fluid arms, legs, and rockers. The joinery is precise and understated, allowing the natural character of the wood to define the piece. Its stance is low and relaxed, inviting a gentle, continuous movement.
The seat and backrest are formed in a sling construction, and comes in its original saddle leather with a beautiful burgundy hue, complemented with softer black leather cushions to create contrast and depth. The original leather shows a deep patina, and a character that is unmatched.
An outstanding example of Brazilian modernism, where craftsmanship and restraint define the design.
The accompanying ottoman, executed in the same rosewood and leather, aligns naturally with the chair in both material and tone.
