De Sede DS-85 Sofa Bed in Black Leather, Switzerland, 1960s
DS-85 sofa bed by the de Sede in Switzerland during the 1960s.
The DS-85 combines the appearance and comfort of a beautiful design sofa with the practical function of a daybed/ double bed. Its broad seat, substantial cushions and understated construction create a relaxed silhouette, while the original soft black leather gives the piece a refined and timeless character.
The sofa can be unfolded to create a larger sleeping surface, transforming the compact seating arrangement into a spacious daybed or double guest bed. This simple conversion mechanism is carefully integrated into the design, allowing the DS-85 to remain visually restrained in its closed position.
Founded in Switzerland in 1965, de Sede developed from a traditional saddler’s workshop into a furniture manufacturer internationally recognised for its expertise in leather upholstery. The DS-85 reflects this background through its substantial comfort, functional construction and careful handling of leather. Their reputation and standards of using only the highest quality leather and materials is why De Sede their designs are still popular today.
