Set of 8 Pierre Chapo S34 chairs in solid Elm, France 1970s
Stunning and rare set of eight Pierre Chapo S34 dining chairs, handcrafted in solid elm wood, France, 1970s. These authentic pieces were produced by Atelier Chapo and perfectly express Chapo’s dedication to honest materials and architectural design.
The S34 chair is one of Chapo’s most recognisable models, defined by its asymmetric yet balanced design. The cross legged base mirrors the slightly offset backrest, creating a sculptural tension that feels both functional and refined. Each chair features Chapo’s signature exposed joinery and warm, expressive elm grain.
These early editions show the characteristic rounded edges of Chapo’s original workshop production and have developed a nice, light patina over time. The craftsmanship, proportions, and quality of the wood capture Chapo’s three design principles: material, form, and function.
Originally designed to pair with the “Sfax” dining table, this set of eight S34 chairs stands as a timeless example of French modern design. A rare opportunity to find a complete and well-preserved set by one of France’s most respected designers.
